Sergio Perez will make his 300th Formula 1 start at the Mexico City Grand Prix on Sunday, in front of his home crowd. Cadillac has planned a special celebration for the milestone.
He will be only the seventh driver to reach 300 starts, after Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Räikkönen, Rubens Barrichello, Michael Schumacher and Jenson Button.
From Sauber to Cadillac
Perez made his debut for Sauber at the 2011 Australian Grand Prix. He finished seventh, but lost the result when both Saubers were disqualified.
He has since raced for McLaren, Force India and Racing Point, Red Bull and now Cadillac, the sport's newest team.
His first win came at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, at his 190th start, a record for the most starts before a first win. He has won six races and taken 39 podiums.
He left Red Bull after the 2024 season and returned with Cadillac in 2026. This week Cadillac extended his contract until 2029.
A home milestone
Speaking at Thursday's official press conference, Perez said it was special to reach the mark in Mexico, in front of his fans.
General Motors president Mark Reuss, whose company owns Cadillac, said it was "an honour" to have Perez in the team.
Perez has twice finished on the podium at his home race, in 2021 and 2022, both times with Red Bull.
When to watch
The Mexico City Grand Prix starts at 1:30am on Monday 2 November in India, which is 2pm on Sunday in Mexico City. Qualifying starts at 2:30am on Sunday, India time.
