Two F1 races on 5 November stand out: a rain-soaked season finale in Adelaide and a milestone win at this weekend's venue.
1989: Boutsen wins a soaked Australian Grand Prix
Thierry Boutsen won the 1989 Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide for Williams-Renault, in appalling wet conditions with almost no visibility. It was the last race of the season.
Alain Prost, already champion, pulled into the pits after one lap for safety reasons. He did not take the restart after an accident stopped the first start.
Ayrton Senna started from pole for McLaren and led the first 13 laps, then ran into the back of Martin Brundle's Brabham in the spray and retired.
Boutsen went on to beat Benetton's Alessandro Nannini by 28.658 seconds, with his Williams team-mate Riccardo Patrese third. The race was stopped after 70 of the planned 81 laps when it hit the two-hour limit.
Lotus driver Satoru Nakajima finished fourth and set the fastest lap, a 1:38.480.
2023: Verstappen passes Prost at Interlagos
Max Verstappen won the 2023 São Paulo Grand Prix at Interlagos for Red Bull from pole position. It was the 52nd win of his career, which took him past Prost's total.
Kevin Magnussen hit Alexander Albon before the first corner, both retired, and the race was soon red-flagged. Charles Leclerc had already crashed out on the formation lap with a hydraulics problem.
Verstappen beat McLaren's Lando Norris by 8.277 seconds.
The fight for third went to the line. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso held off Red Bull's Sergio Perez by 0.053 seconds, for his first podium at Interlagos since 2013.
Race it on Late Brake
Adelaide is not in Late Brake, but Interlagos is, and F1 returns there this weekend. The free browser game has six real circuits: take on the AI rivals or race other players online around the São Paulo lap.
