A new race under the lights, a comeback in Mexico City and a record for Mercedes. Here is what happened in Formula 1 on 1 November.
2009: Vettel wins the first Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Sebastian Vettel won the first race at the Yas Marina Circuit, the last round of the 2009 season. It was also the first day-night Grand Prix: the race started at 5pm local time and the sun set 43 minutes later.
Lewis Hamilton started from pole for McLaren but retired after 18 laps with a brake problem. Vettel led Mark Webber home for Red Bull's fourth one-two of the year, 17.857 seconds clear.
Jenson Button, already crowned champion in Brazil, finished third for Brawn, just 0.610 seconds behind Webber. Kamui Kobayashi scored his first points in sixth for Toyota.
The race closed a chapter. It was the last for the Brawn, BMW Sauber and Toyota teams, and the last with refuelling during races.
2015: Rosberg wins as Mexico returns
Formula 1 went back to Mexico City for the first time since 1992, and Nico Rosberg won for Mercedes from his fourth pole in a row.
He beat team-mate Lewis Hamilton by 1.954 seconds, with Valtteri Bottas third for Williams. Hamilton had already sealed the title at the previous race in Austin.
2020: Mercedes take a record seventh straight title at Imola
Lewis Hamilton won the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Formula 1's first race at Imola since the 2006 San Marino Grand Prix.
Valtteri Bottas started from pole and finished second, 5.783 seconds behind, with Renault's Daniel Ricciardo third. The one-two gave Mercedes their seventh constructors' title in a row, a record.
The weekend was squeezed into two days, with a single practice session, and the race was held without spectators because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Race it on Late Brake
None of these three circuits is in Late Brake, but the next race of 2026 is. Interlagos is one of six real circuits in the free browser game: turn on the racing line, learn its braking boards and try the daily challenge before the season heads to Brazil.
